An Introductory Welcome:
As a group of engineering students, our digital documentary covers the section of buildings on campus at the University of Kentucky, known as the Engineering Quadrangle. The Engineering Quad is an area that stands out from the vast variety of buildings and structures located throughout campus, and even the entire city of Lexington. Hundreds of thousands of bricks, tons of yards of cement, and other unique architectural displays catch the eye of those who pass by. The use of arches, rectangles, and open landscape are all examples of why this space is so intriguingly designed. We have researched subjects including: the history of the buildings and their donors, the structure of the buildings, the contents of the buildings, the people who visit the buildings, and the placement of the buildings, as well as a look into the future of the College of Engineering. This website is directed, but not limited to, those interested in architecture, geography, and especially engineering, but furthermore, to those who are unfamiliar with this overlooked environment. We want others to be able to share knowledge on the engineering community and learn more about this interesting space that we share a passion for.
Our Intent:
We hope that this digital documentary about the Engineering Quadrangle answers any questions surrounding the quad, showing history, purpose, interests and groups, and also spark interest in the body of engineering students that use the buildings on a daily basis. We have produced a product intended to be used as a valuable resource in the future advancement of the College of Engineering. This website explores our common interest and gains insight into an area of campus, or an area of Lexington, that may often go unnoticed.
